1.
At the invitation of the Chairman, Mr. Mayer-Ladewig, Mr. Daum, Mr. Siegismund and Mrs. Chwolik-Lanfermann took places at the Committee table
.

The CHAIRMAN
read out the conclusions of the Committee:
"The Committee against Torture:
"Thanks the German Government for its clear, comprehensive and objective report;
"Thanks the German delegation for the pertinent replies it provided to the questions submitted to it;
"Welcomes the legal and administrative measures which have been taken in Germany to prevent and, where necessary, punish torture;
"Is pleased to note that Germany is doing everything in its power to fulfil the obligations it assumed in acceding to the Convention against Torture;
"Requests the German delegation to inform the Committee of the result of the investigation initiated in Bremen into the incidents brought to its attention;
"Requests the German Government to envisage the possibility of making the necessary declarations so that Germany is bound by articles 2 and 22 of the Convention."

The CHAIRMAN
requested Germany to contribute to the Voluntary Fund for torture victims or, if it was already contributing, to increase the amount of its contribution.
4. He announced that the Committee was thinking of adopting an optional protocol under which a subcommittee would be set up to visit places of detention. He drew the German delegation's attention to that draft optional protocol. Lastly, he thanked the German delegation for its positive contribution to the dialogue with the Committee.
5.
Mr. MAYER-LADEWIG
said that the exchange of views that had taken place had been both gratifying and pleasant and, referring to the point raised by the Chairman, explained that Germany had contributed the sum of DM 200,000 to the Voluntary Fund in the course of the year.
