TO REPLACE THOSE WHOSE TERMS ARE DUE TO EXPIRE ON
31 DECEMBER 1995, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE 17
OF THE CONVENTION AGAINST TORTURE AND OTHER CRUEL,
1. Since the preparation of document CAT/SP/18/Add.1, the Secretary-General has received a note verbale from the Permanent Mission of Panama to the United Nations Office at Geneva, dated 6 November 1995, informing him that the Government of Panama has decided to withdraw the candidacy of Mr. Olimpo Sáenz Marcucci for the election of the five members of the Committee against Torture to replace those whose terms are due to expire on 31 December 1995.
2. The Secretary-General has also received the candidacy of Ms. Nakpa POLO, (Togo). Biographical data on Ms. POLO, as provided by the State Party, are reproduced in the annex to the present document.

Attended a number of human rights conferences and seminars, as well as the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing, 4-15 September 1995).
Participated in an advanced seminar, held in Bordeaux from 7 to 21 October 1995, on the preparation of national human rights reports.
Secretary-General, Togolese Women's Rights League.
